IGDA Global Game Jam 2011

by on Jan.16, 2011, under News

ACM reached an agreement with IGDA to be in-cooperation with this year’s Global Game Jam (GGJ) event. It is a 48 hour event which runs from January 28 – January 30, 2011. Many of you may be familiar with this event; if you are not, you can visit http://www.globalgamejam.org to learn more.

There are two ways that a chapter can get involved with this event: host a GGJ site or publicize a GGJ site in your local area. The page with all currently scheduled sites can be found here: http://www.globalgamejam.org/Locations. Even if there are currently sites in your city / region don’t be afraid to set up your own. Of course, you may also find it easier to partner with a specific site this year so that you get a better idea of what running a GGJ entails.

The main GGJ page i mentioned above is your best bet to figure out whether you are up for hosting a GGJ. There are a couple of good items on the main site, starting with “Jamming 101 with Susan Gold”. There’s also a link to the wiki put together by former organizers with tons of information on how to keep the event rolling smoothly:  http://www.globalgamejam.org/wiki/ggj-wiki

Logistics are pretty simple: at the most basic you need physical space, internet, and one person who is willing to be the main point of contact.  Create an account on the globalgamejam.org website, log in, and then there’s an “apply for GGJ 2011 site” link… click that, fill out the form, and that’ll kick things off.  There’s also a scheduled online organizer session next Tuesday, January 11.
