Austin ACM SIGGRAPH needs your help to continue its Mission!

11/16/2011

Hey Austin. I’m sorry to have to write this note, but due to a shortage of people who can devote time to the Austin Chapter of SIGGRAPH, we are seriously considering filing to CLOSE THE CHAPTER. We will be sending out an email soon as the official way to do this is by a vote from the membership. IF YOU WANT TO KEEP SIGGRAPH GOING, you will need to step up ASAP and let us know that you are willing to take on the responsibility of leadership. This week I will be talking with ADAM GLICK and the other officers from last year to confirm the process for closing the chapter.

Open Call for Nominees for The Board of Directors

Austin ACM SIGGRAPH is run by a committed and enthusiastic team of volunteers who simply love computer graphics technology and anything associated with it. This team, the Austin ACM SIGGRAPH Board of Directors, provides direction and oversight for the local organization.

It’s almost election time for 2011 and we are seeking nominees for both our (elected) officers and the Board of Directors (appointed) committee chair volunteers. Ballots will be sent to all Austin ACM SIGGRAPH members this summer. All nominees must be current members of Austin ACM SIGGRAPH, but new members are most welcome. Experience with the organization as a volunteer is also strongly encouraged, but not required.

Without member participation, volunteering and input, Austin ACM SIGGRAPH wouldn’t exist. We need you to help make it all happen!

Nominations must be accompanied by the nominee’s name, address, telephone number, and email address. It should also include a brief bio (maximum of 100 words) and a statement explaining why the nominee would like to run for the Board. This statement should be no more than 250 words and address the following items:

  • Why do you want to be a member of the Austin ACM SIGGRAPH Board of Directors?
  • What activities would you like to see Austin ACM SIGGRAPH develop?
  • In what areas would you like to participate on committees?
  • What current interests of yours do you feel would contribute to board and the Austin ACM SIGGRAPH community?

If you wish to nominate somebody else, contact the secretary: [mailto:secretary@atxsigg.org]

Help make this election cycle a success and If You or somebody you know might be interested in helping take the chapter forward as a new member of its leadership, please throw your name in the hat!

—————————————————————————————————

ACM Siggraph Austin’s member meeting schedule has changed from First Mondays to Second Wednesdays.

By doing this we were able to reserve the 6th street Opal Divines Meeting Room for an entire year. The room comes complete with a P.A. system, and 120” screen monitor with multi-media capabilities. Perfect since we are now incorporating guest speakers into our monthly meeting itinerary.

So our next meeting will be on June 8th at 7:00. We are still trying to get confirmation on a few speakers for June, but know that the guest speaker series will be solid after this month. We know you want more show and less tell so as this chapter and our leadership grows we will become more adept at bringing cool “Siggraph worthy” things to fruition. Thank you, to everyone who takes the time to come out and talk with us every month. We hope you like the new space and our upcoming plans.
